Uma Wang’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection draws deeply from Constantin Brâncusi’s philosophy, which centers on the idea that “simplicity is complexity resolved.” Inspired by Brâncusi’s retrospective at the Centre Pompidou, Wang sought to strip away the unnecessary, focusing on what remains when all decorative distractions are removed. Her designs present a study in radical reduction, transforming fabric into sculptural, three-dimensional silhouettes that reveal the refined beauty of complexity.

The collection explores the dynamic interplay between form, texture, and movement. Architectural lines project into space, enhancing natural curves and creating fluid shapes that move with the body. Each silhouette is repeated across various fabrics—from weighty, structured materials to lighter, more fluid textiles—allowing Wang to explore how texture resolves form’s complexities.

Wang’s use of contrasts is key: waxed and washed fabrics convey both weight and lightness, while reversed jacquards expose raw beauty, challenging traditional expectations. The color palette, grounded in earthy neutrals like soft gesso and deep tobacco, is energized by bursts of washed-out red, adding surprise to the serene mood.

Ultimately, Wang’s collection pays homage to Brâncusi’s mastery of reduction, demonstrating that simplicity, far from being the absence of complexity, is its most refined expression.
