SENsation Paris: A Taste of Cantonese Cuisine in the City of Love

Paris during Fashion Week moves at its own exhilarating pace: a whirlwind of runway shows, appointments, and creative encounters, with barely a moment to pause. And yet, amid the city’s relentless energy, there is something wonderfully restorative about discovering a restaurant where the food, atmosphere, and company come together effortlessly. During our latest visit to Paris, that place was SENsation.
From the moment we stepped inside, we were drawn into its vibrant atmosphere. The dining room was alive with conversation, the energy infectious, and the service warm and attentive. It was the kind of place that invites you to settle in, order generously, and let the evening unfold.
Leading the kitchen at SENsation is Chef Samuel Lee, whose culinary journey includes heading the kitchen at Shang Palace at the Shangri-La Paris. At SENsation, he brings his expertise and passion for Cantonese cuisine to a contemporary dining experience, honouring traditional flavours and techniques while introducing a distinctly modern sensibility. His approach is rooted in the pleasure of sharing: an invitation to experience authentic Chinese cuisine in an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
Our dinner offered a delicious introduction to his culinary vision. We began with deep-fried zucchini and crispy crab spring rolls with Comté cheese, a playful meeting of textures and flavours that set the tone for the evening. The crispy duck, served with delicate, thin pancakes, brought a sense of comforting familiarity to the table, while remaining a highlight in its own right.
Dessert continued on a lighter, equally satisfying note. Chilled mango cream with pomelo and tapioca offered a refreshing balance of sweetness and texture, before a lemon cheesecake brought the evening to a bright, citrus-led close. Each dish contributed to a menu that felt inviting and thoughtfully composed, balancing recognisable favourites with creative details.
Yet what made the experience particularly memorable extended beyond the menu. Meeting Chef Samuel and hearing about his vision for SENsation added a personal dimension to the evening. His passion for his craft is reflected not only in the food but also in the spirit of the restaurant: a place where culinary heritage, contemporary influences, and the simple pleasure of gathering around a table coexist naturally.
After days filled with the intensity of Fashion Week, SENsation Paris offered precisely the pause we needed: beautifully prepared food, engaging conversation, and the pleasure of feeling genuinely welcome. It was an evening that reminded us that some of the most memorable Parisian experiences happen away from the runway, around a table shared with good company.
A heartfelt thank you to Chef Samuel and his wonderful team for such a lovely evening. SENsation has certainly earned a place on our Paris list, and we look forward to returning on our next visit to the City of Love.
