Andaz Tokyo: Japanese essence with a modern twist

For months we have been planning our trip to Japan, so when we finally arrived in Narita airport one late night, we were filled of excitement. We took the train to the city and arrived at our first destination, the incredible Andaz Tokyo hotel, located in the Toranomon Hills area.

We had a nice welcome in the reception and immediately fell in love with the design and decoration of the hotel, which truly captures the Japanese culture and gives it a modern twist. In each part of the hotel, you could get inspired! We arrived at our room on the 50th floor and quickly opened the curtains to find an incredible view of Tokyo Tower and the seemingly never-ending city of Tokyo – simply stunning! The room itself was so elegantly designed in the modern Japanese style with a large comfortable bed, a big hot tub, and an extended couch area, which was perfect for enjoying the incredible views. Although we were quite tired, we still went for a night walk in the empty surrounding streets to get a first feel of the city.

Following a good night’s sleep, we woke up excited to see the view in day light, which was as amazing as during the night. We went down to the restaurant for an incredible breakfast with so many delicious options from both the Japanese and western cuisine – a perfect way to recharge energy for a full day of exploring the city of Tokyo. Before venturing out into the city, we went for a walk around the hotel to see our options for the following days. The hotel has a nice lobby area with snacks, tea, and coffee for all guests, where there is also live music in the afternoon. It also offers free access to the pool and fitness area, which is very beautiful and equipped with the latest machines. We were told that on clear days, you can even see mount Fuji from the hotel because the building is so tall. Unfortunately, due to the humidity in the spring time, it was not possible for us to see during our stay.

We spent the day getting to know the Toranomon Hills area and getting familiar with using the transport system to get around the city in the most efficient way. The weather was perfect with 20 degrees and sun, so we had an excellent day of sightseeing. In the night, we went to the roof top bar in Andaz to get some delicious drinks and a bite to eat while enjoying the incredible views of the city from the 52nd floor. It is fair to say that we had already fallen in love with the hotel and city, and we were even more excited to continue exploring the coming days.

We went to bed with very good impressions, but we were unaware that we would get to experience something that is also familiar for the Japanese islands, an earthquake! At 4am we both woke up with what we thought was the bed shaking, shortly after we heard the hotel alarm saying that there had a been an earthquake, which turned out was 5.2 on the Richter scale. Luckily, Andaz is in a new building complex, which has the newest protection system, so we felt very safe and were able to fall asleep again shortly after. There were luckily no severe damages following the quake, so we just got an extra touch of the full Japanese experience, haha!

Next morning, we had arranged a delicious Japanese style breakfast in our room, so we could sit and enjoy the incredible view while treating ourselves to some excellent local dishes. It was a perfect way to start the day. The Andaz Tokyo hotel was a truly special place to start our Japan trip and we were very sad when we had to check out to continue our journey. Next time we visit Tokyo, we will definitely return for some more days of excellent service, comfort, and good facilities.
