The Lovechild 1979 Spring Summer 2023 collection looks to 20th century painter Helene Schjerfbeck (July 10, 1862 – January 23, 1946). A strong modernist female artist from Finland, known for interpreting modern life and modern women in particular. She maintained a remarkable openness to new art forms and started her artwork with a skilled, somewhat melancholic version of late 19t century academic realism, but developed into more distilled, nearly abstract images in which pure paint and cryptic descriptions are held in perfect balance. She had a remarkable talent for colour and her work seems to perfectly balance calm, muted tones with the rich and bright ones into highly “tactile” compositions and paintings.

In a similar way, the Lovechild 1979 collection balances between a soft colour palette of endless blues, champagne and earthy sand and camel colours juxtaposed with denser, saturated tones of black, pink and purple.

It moves between feminine, soft cut silhouettes and masculine references in gentle shaped linen suits, a highly oversized boxy blazer and straight leg trousers in classic corduroy, and multiple takes on overshirts.

Fabrics are infused with tactility and moves between fluid drape viscoses such as a satin logo jacquard and a blue-on-black spring flower print on viscose twill, contrasted with more sporty fabrics, as seen on the iconic logo-label shorts and trousers, that bring a striking note to athleticwear, while a warm tanned crinkled land leather gives body and depth.
