There is a particular kind of beauty in a room where something is being made. Sketches gather on tables. Fabric is draped over chairs. A brush is left beside an open notebook. Ideas appear in fragments, some abandoned, others waiting to become something more. For Spring Summer 2027, MUNTHE enters this world.

Conceived by Creative Director and Founder Naja Munthe, the collection takes its cues from the woman who inhabits the atelier: assured but instinctive, disciplined yet unconcerned with perfection. She moves between the canvas and the everyday, between making and observing, and her wardrobe follows suit.

Tailoring arrives with the authority of a traditional master’s uniform: structured jackets, crisp shirts and ties, before being softened by the signs of real life. Worn worker denim, oversized jeans and relaxed overalls introduce a certain nonchalance, while ruffled dresses and crochet lace bring a more romantic sensibility. A jacket is paired with a tie; an otherwise utilitarian silhouette is finished with pearls. The contrasts feel natural, as though they have emerged from the same creative impulse.

“I drew inspiration from the world of a master artist and her atelier – a space where creativity, craftsmanship, and imagination come together,” says Munthe. “Her wardrobe reflects the duality of her world: refined tailoring and ties inspired by traditional masters, paired with worn worker denim and relaxed overalls marked by traces of paint and process.”

Colour has the softened quality of a painter’s palette. Blue, lemon, cream, dark petrol green and chocolate form the foundation, punctuated by expressive touches that feel almost brushed onto the clothes. There is no desire for everything to be immaculate. Instead, the collection leaves room for the unexpected: a mark, a texture, an irregularity that makes a piece feel distinctly human.

At the centre of this world is the artist’s notebook: a private collection of sketches, thoughts and fleeting observations. Before an idea becomes finished, it exists there in its most instinctive form. MUNTHE captures something of that moment in the clothes, where refinement and spontaneity are allowed to coexist.

The season’s Art Monday collaboration brings another artist into the conversation. Australian painter Judith Sinnamon, a QCA graduate, is known for evocative oil paintings in which light, movement and the flora of the Australian landscape dissolve into atmospheric, almost dreamlike compositions. Her work lends the collection a sense of place, connecting the intimacy of the studio with the natural world beyond it.

The MUNTHE woman does not simply dress for her surroundings. She absorbs them. A tailored jacket becomes as expressive as a brushstroke; denim takes on character through wear; a delicate detail feels all the more beautiful for its imperfection.

“The atelier is more than a workspace; it is her universe,” says Munthe. “Here, creativity leads the way, and every detail reflects the beauty of making something by hand.”

And perhaps that is where the collection finds its most compelling expression: not in perfection, but in the moment just before it. The unfinished sketch. The paint left on the cuff. The garment that feels as though it has already belonged to someone.

A wardrobe, in other words, not simply to be worn, but to be lived in.
