MKDT Studio Spring Summer 27

James Cochrane

There is a certain quality to Nordic light: soft, muted, almost melancholic. It falls quietly across interiors and landscapes, revealing beauty in what is restrained, weathered and imperfect.

For Spring/Summer 2027, MKDT Studio looks to two very different Danish artists: painter Vilhelm Hammershøi and photographer Kirsten Klein. One found poetry in quiet rooms and solitary figures; the other in windswept landscapes and the rawness of nature. Together, they create a world of contrasts.

The collection moves between these two spaces.

Tailoring is pared back and precise: collarless blazers, fitted dresses and double-breasted suits in soft wool, linen and hemp. Hammershøi’s recurring figures, often seen from behind, inspire buttons that travel down the back and silhouettes that open from the spine, creating an unexpected sense of movement.

Against this structure, softer pieces bring ease: draped tops, slip dresses and wide trousers in matte silk, mohair and sheer fabrics. Peter Pan collars appear as a quiet reference to another time, while blurred florals and full fringe introduce something more instinctive and untamed.

The palette is deliberately faded: ecru, stone, putty, cloud, dark olive, brown and black. Lavender and sun-washed yellow appear like small breaks in the clouds.

In the Atelier pieces, everyday domestic textiles become something more sensual. Organza and crinkled silk fall loosely around the body, with long ties and panels moving behind the wearer like laundry caught in the wind. Handcrafted floral appliqué by Thit Moses adds a tactile, almost wild quality.

The result is a wardrobe built on contradiction: structured yet fluid, quiet yet expressive, familiar yet slightly strange.

A woman who does not need to choose between softness and strength.

She moves gently between wildness and calm.
