To kick-start the European summer, we decided to go on a road trip to Hamburg in Germany, as it is a manageable distance from Copenhagen and a very vibrant city. Most of the time, we are only my husband and I when we travel, but this time we were lucky to have the company of my brother, who was visiting Denmark. So, since we had already decided we wanted to go road tripping, what is then the best, most fun, and comfortable way to do so?
After an excellent trip, we arrived at the entrance of our destination, the amazing Fontenay Hamburg. The hotel opened in 2018 and is a homage to the city of Hamburg. Open, cosmopolitan, and extremely hospitable. Set in a beautiful park on the lake Alster, The Fontenay is also within a walking distance of the shops and museums of the city centre. This modern city resort combines urban nature and contemporary lifestyle with fascinating architecture. We stayed in the most beautiful suite with a spacious terrace and a lovely view to the lake, as you can see in the pictures. The terrace was ideal for having some cold drinks, snacks and fun talks and jokes.
The Fontenay is one of these hotels, where you sometimes do not even feel like going out to explore the city. To start our days, we had excellent breakfasts with a great variety savoury and sweet options, and we ended up spending a lot of time over the breakfast table in the nice surroundings. Another thing that keeps you hanging around in the hotel is the incredible spa area with probably one of the best views of Hamburg city, perfect for either starting or ending the days.
During our visit in Hamburg, we were lucky with sunny weather, so we could simply walk around in the city and visit some nice restaurants to sit outside with a nice glass of wine and some delicious dishes. One of our favourites was Landhaus Scherrer, where we explored their super delicious vegan menu, a must-go when in Hamburg.
We had the best trip and truly enjoyed our time in The Fontenay, we really can´t wait to come back to our new home in Hamburg! The perfect drive there in the Tesla X Plaid made us want to just continue driving down through Europe in the most comfortable and fun way – perhaps next time.
