Our next stop in the hunt for a never-ending summer in Europe led us to the small and authentic city of Dubrovnik in the Southern part of Croatia. We arrived at the Dubrovnik airport following a short flight from Zagreb and picked up the rental car we had arranged from home, so we were quickly on the way of the first part of our little road trip! The ride to our hotel was beautiful and it was the first time we saw the beautiful Adriatic Sea and the old town of Dubrovnik.
After a 25-minute drive we arrived at the amazing Hotel Excelsior where we were met by a perfect reception as we simply handed over the key to the car for the friendly hotel staff who parked our car and brought our bags to our room – talk about good service, huh? Entering the lobby, we were met by an amazing view and felt like home immediately!
The next good surprise was going to our room, we had an incredible suite with a huge living room, two bathrooms and a big bedroom. The best part was the two balconies facing the Adriatic Sea, the old town of Dubrovnik and the Otok Lokrum island. This is without a doubt one of the best views we have experienced! The colour of the sea is absolutely incredible and my husband could not wait to run down the stairs, jump in the sea and go for a swim. We however decided to first go for a walk to see the area, so we walked towards to old city, which is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel. The old city is so beautiful, so we decided to get up early the following day to take some pictures with less people on the streets.
When we were back in the hotel, my husband finally got the chance to go for a swim while I took some spying pictures of him from our balcony, haha! It had already been a good day, but we still had something amazing waiting for us as the sun was beginning to set and the colours in the sky from our hotel were simply unreal, a sunset like the one from Hotel Excelsior is something you truly need to cherish, wow!
As planned, next morning we got up early and went for a walk to the old city of Dubrovnik. The city is full of history and you can really feel it once you enter the gates! It is no secret that my husband and I are big Game of Thrones fans, so while taking pictures we of course went to see the stairs where Cersei Lannister went for her famous “Walk of Shame”, which was pretty fun. Even if you have not watched the series it is still fascinating to walk the streets of this old and well-preserved town. I would encourage you to go in the morning when it is relatively empty to really sense how it used to be in the old days there.
Following a lovely morning walk in the city, we were beginning to get hungry and went for a delicious breakfast, yummy! The weather was nice from the morning and we were lucky as the corner table outside was free, so we had the perfect place to enjoy all the many tasty options. The rest of day we enjoyed in the hotel, went for swims and took some pictures – everything in such a nice and relaxing mood, exactly what we had hoped for!
Our three days in Excelsior and Dubrovnik went by so fast, yet it feels like we have memories from more than a week. Everything was even better than we had hoped for and definitely found another place for our “Must-Return” – list!
