The iconic Hotel Esplanade

 AD, Travel,

It has been a dream to visit Croatia for some time and this year we decided to finally go. Last year in October we decided to squeeze the last out of the European summer by travelling to Greece and this year we decided to travel south again. The first stop of our trip was Zagreb and the famous Hotel Esplanade. The hotel is the most famous in the city and was originally built as a refuge for travellers on the infamous luxury Orient Express train, which was quite interesting to learn. Since then the hotel has become the preferred choice of presidents, film stars, musicians and politicians when they visit the city of Zagreb. When we entered we could immediately feel the luxury and historic atmosphere that surrounds the hotel and we could not have been more excited about our stay.

Our room was large, had an excellent view to the park and we were even met with some delicious fruits, chocolates and an excellent local red wine. Everything was just how we dreamed and we were ready to really enjoy our stay. We went for a walk to the most famous places in Zagreb, which are all close to the hotel, e.g. the botanic garden, the concert hall and Sankt Mark’s Church. In the night we got a table in hotel restaurant Zinfandel’s and we were in for a treat with the most delicious dinner in relaxing surroundings. We had some very good talks, a little too much wine, great food and delicious desserts.

We went to bed in such a good mood after a wonderful day in Zagreb and after a good night’s sleep in our wonderful bed we woke up and started the day with a delicious hotel breakfast before saying goodbye to the hotel and continue our journey in Croatia. It was a short but incredible stay in Zagreb and we really understand why everyone wants to stay at Hotel Esplanade. The building, the location and the service is something you only find in few places. We cannot wait to come back and experience it again!
