In the end of 2022, we had the pleasure to finally visit one of the cities that had been on our list for a very long, the eternal city, Rome. Initially, we had planned to go for a weekend trip, but quickly realised that we needed more days to explore all the fantastic historical sites. A very convenient thing about Rome is that almost everything is in found inside the city walls and is therefore within walking distance. We carefully chose a great location to begin our daily adventures, the absolutely amazing Hotel de la Ville. The hotel is perfectly placed to reach many of the places we wanted to visit, e.g., the Spanish stairs, Villa Borghese, Fontana di Trevi, Colosseum and Pantheon. Hotel de la Ville is somewhat of an attraction itself with its charming courtyard and incredible rooftop with a perfect city view. Our room was very elegantly decorated and spacious, including two balconies and a huge comfortable bed. All the hotel staff was extremely accommodating and helpful to answer all our inquiries. The breakfast buffet was up there among the best we have ever had, full of fresh fruits, bread, sweets and nice ‘a la carte’ options – I still dream of the carbonara omelette we had there, haha!
We were blessed with mostly sunny days during our stay, which meant we could wake up early to walk around the city before it really woke. One morning, we walked to Vatican City and for the first time visited the St. Peter’s Basilica as well a climbing the 551 steps to the top of the dome – a simply magical experience that I can recommend for everyone who visits Rome. Other mornings, we went to the Fontana di Trevi and the Colosseum while also going for a walk in the park of Villa Borghese to enjoy the warming winter sun. We had such a great time in Rome with delicious pasta and pizza, adventurous walks to great sites in a city with such a rich heritage and history. Although we felt we walked all over the city, we still feel there is so much more to discover. We cannot wait to visit again, and I am sure we return to the incredible Hotel de la Ville for another amazing experience.
