Visiting Kiev

One of the best things about travelling is visiting places without knowing exactly what to expect, but instead just prepare yourself for new adventures and inspirations. When we decided to visit Kiev in Ukraine this is exactly the feeling we had when leaving Copenhagen airport. None of our close friends or family had visited the city before, so we arrived with a completely open mind and I can already now reveal that we were so positively surprised by our visit! From Copenhagen there are direct flights with Wizz Air at perfect departure times, so you can leave Friday after work and arrive back home on Sunday night. We left Copenhagen Airport at around 7 pm and arrived 11pm (local time) at our hotel – 11 Mirrors Design Hotel.

The hotel is the only boutique hotel in Kiev and it is so cool. We had an incredible room with large windows in front of the bed, providing a great view to the nearby cathedral. Upon arrival we got a nice glass of sparkling wine, so we could toast for a great trip and fall asleep very excited about our adventures in the weekend. After a good night’s sleep, we woke of full of energy and could see that the weather outside was perfect with 28 degrees and sunshine – what more could you ask for? It was still summer in Kiev! We had a great breakfast in the restaurant before tying our shoes and walking around the nearby area. We quickly found out that the location we had chosen could not be better, as we could walk to all the cool places of the city. The hotel is next to the opera, which is supposed to be one of the best in Eastern Europe – unfortunately it was sold out in the weekend we were there. We spent most of the Saturday walking around the city, which is full of charming buildings, inspiring cathedrals, for example St. Volodymyr, St. Michael and St. Sophia, and nice markets where you can find some cool local arts and crafts and make some very good deals.

Following a long and very interesting day, we found a small Italian restaurant close to our hotel and had great dinner before spending the rest of the night relaxing in our room. Before going to bed we decided to have a lazy start to the next morning, so we filled out the breakfast card and hung it on the door so we could enjoy our amazing view in the room with delicious breakfast and coffee. On the Sunday we took full advantage of the perfect weather by relaxing in some of the beautiful parks and had an excellent lunch at Restaurant Odessa – a perfect lazy Sunday.

While we waited for our flight in the airport with a couple of delicious sandwiches in our hands, we talked about how amazing the weekend had been and that we should try to return soon, so Kiev and 11 Mirrors Design hotel you will not be missing us for long because we cannot wait to meet you again and continue our adventures in the city.
